iPod touch + 3G WM phone tutorial
I based this tutorial on the knowledge I gathered from setting up my Samsung i600(WM6) with my iPod touch and from these sources xda-developers.com, modaco.com.
First this may work with Windows Mobile 5 phones that have ICS(Internet Connection Sharing). But this tutorial is written with experience gained from setting up a Samsung i600 Windows Mobile 6 phone.
1. What do you need to make this work?
- Preferably a 3G phone with WM6 that had built-in wifi and bluetooth.
- An iPod touch or laptop
2. That’s the hardware part you also need to following software.
- WMWifirouter
- PHM (if needed)
- Wlan IP Manager (if needed)
- SP_AllowCertificateInstall.cab (if needed)
- SDA_ApplicationUnlock.zip (if needed)
3. Next check if you can setup a static ip on you WM6 phone.
- Go to -> Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Wifi
- If there is a Network Adapters tab go to 6. Ad Hoc , else go to 4. Wlan IP Manager.
4. Because there is no Network Adapters tab on you phone you need to download Wlan IP Manager and install it. Search on google for, WLANIpManager_Setup.CAB and copy and install it on you phone.
5. Setup of Wlan IP Manager(only when you don’t have a Network Adapters tab)
- Go to Start -> Wlan IP Manager
- Select you wifi adapter name.

Next step,
- Select options -> New profile
- Input the following settings
IP 192.168.0.1
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.0.1
When done your phone will reboot with the new settings. If an error comes up it could be because your phone is registry locked.
5.1 To unlock follow the next steps(at you own risk, may cause damage to your phone).
Get the next 2 file from google. SPAllowCertificateInstall.cab and SDAApplicationUnlock.zip
- Copy SP_AllowCertificateInstall.cab to the root of you phone.
- Run the application.
- After unzipping run SDA_ApplicationUnlock.exe while your phone is connected with active sync. (If you’re a Mac user use Virtualbox or similar to install windows xp with active sync.)
- Download PHM Registry Editor Smartphone 2002, 2003(ARM/PXA) package.
- Copy it to your phone and install.
- Go to Start -> PHM
- Go to HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies
Change the DWORD named “1001″ to 1 (could originally be 2)
Change the DWORD named “1005″ to 40 (could originally be 16)
HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\0000 1017 = 128 or 16 (before) 144 (after)
HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\0000 101b = 1 (this key might not exist, if so, create it).
- Restart you phone
- Next Follow the 5. Wlan IP Manager steps again.
- Now it should reboot and have the correct settings.
6. Next step is to setup an Ad Hoc Wifi connection on your mobile phone. - Wifi must be on. - Go to Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Wifi - Add new - Enter a Network name. - Networktyppe is internet - Check for device-to-device
Go to next page.
Select shared as Autentication type.
- WEP for Data encryption
Enter a network key
Select finish
6.1 Setup a static IP(only when you don’t need to use Wlan IP Manager)
- Go to Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Wifi
- On the Network Adapters tab select you wifi device.
On the IP Address tab, select specific IP address.
IP 192.168.0.1
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.0.1
7. WMWifirouterDownload WMWifirouter and copy it somewhere to your phone.
- Use your explorer and launch WMWifirouter
- Press connect and let WMWifirouter configurate your phone, wait till it’s done.
Now you’re done with you phone and should it be configured correctly.
8. I’m using the setting for an iPod touch for these should also work on a laptop.
- Go to Settings -> Wifi on your iPod touch.
- Select the wifi network you created on you mobile phone.
- Enter you password.
- Press the blue arrow and select the Static tab and use the these settings.
IP adress 192.168.0.2
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Router 192.168.0.1
DNS 208.67.220.220 (Open DNS server www.opendns.com)

I also tried this tutorial with my phone and laptop and have the same problem. Phone and laptop are connected but I can’t browse my laptop via laptop.
